In honor of PANCAKES

February 28, 2012 was National Pancake Day at IHOP in support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.  CMNH has been Phi Mu's National Philanthropy since 1986!  I am currently visiting Phi Mu-Nu chapter and we decided to hit up the local IHOP for some yummy pancakes.  The wait was a little long, but it was totally worth it.  It is awesome to know that people came out to support Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.  What a great cause!

hmmm short stack? Nahhh I'll take this one!

The walls were covered in balloons!

MIZ - ZOU

When I visited the University of Missouri I had a surprise the first morning I woke up...it was completely white outside!  Definitely a winter wonderland!  I had never seen as much snow before in my life.  I always tell the story to chapter members about when Northwestern closed my junior year for one day and called it a SNOW DAY!....They would have seriously laughed at the pitiful amount of snow on the ground!

It was a great visit. I even was able to help the chapter out with their lipsync competition.  Their theme was Chicago! Gosh I just loved it.

The student union was probably the nicest I have ever seen.  I must say it was interesting being on a campus with the mascot of a tiger and it not be LSU! It is crazy that there are 3 schools in the SEC as the tigers! I sure hope MIZZOU is ready to be a part of the south!

Enjoy the photos

The sweet Alumni chapter from St. Louis brought candy for the Chi chapter in honor of Valentine's Day!
Too sweet :)

I should have made a snow angel!

I had to leave on Valentine's Day, but I am very excited to be visiting again soon in the next two weeks! Missouri here I come!

Mardi in NC!

Today was my first Mardi Gras away from Louisiana.
I was definitely a sad little cajun.
Where's the king cake?  Do they not sell it in Boone, NC?
uhhh that is a no!

Tonight we ate at this little place called Woodlands BBQ.
Such a great place.
This guy busted out his acoustic and started playing.
He was awesome!
THEN.....
he started playing "oh when the saints go marching in"
It was fate to be there at dinner tonight!

Club Swing

While I was home the last time I had the wonderful opportunity to have a hot date!...with my Pawpaw :)

It was so much fun.  We headed down to Baton Rouge to see a show called Club Swing, but on the way down we took a little detour to see the new bridge in St. Francesville, LA.  Pawpaw said, "If a bridge can be pretty this bridge is certainly pretty" and I definitely agree with him!

We also had a great dinner!  Dad always teases me about taking me out to eat at Burger King.  So when Pawpaw and I went on the trip Dad said, "Make sure you get him to take you somewhere nicer than Burger King"... so when we stopped at a red light and this was to our right I just could not resist taking a picture!

The show was great and so was the company.  Wanted to share the pictures of the bridge...thanks to instagram I think they look pretty cool!

Until next time...

february 14

As Valentine's Day approached I was completely content with the fact that my day will be quite different.  Waking up early in the morning and tracking through tons of snow in Missouri to get to the airport (2 hours away) seemed to be on the agenda.  My flight was not until 12:45, but I was able to get on an earlier flight at 10 since I was there much earlier.  I was exhausted!  I fell asleep before the plane even took off the ground.  When I woke up and we were back on land the lady sitting next to me said, "Well you certainly had a good nap."  Well yes I did....traveling through Atlanta feels like home now.  I am use to the train, terminal D, and Smoothie King (which I always get while passing through)...everything seemed pretty normal for a travel day.  I finally make it to Montgomery and reach my home away from home.  The Tilly residence.  I love coming to Montgomery!  I feel a sense of peace every time I am back...well the big fluffy bed and my own bathroom does help a little bit.  Mrs. Tilly and I are catching up but the door bell rings so she goes to answer the door.  She walks back in the room with a box that says flowers.com.  So I immediately say, "Aw Mrs. Tilly you shouldn't have!!!" and her reply is, "Well I didn't".  Hmmm who would have sent me flowers!?  The only person I could think of that would send me flowers in a box would be my good ole daddy!  Well sure enough I open the box and find the card that reads, "luv ya, dad"...he always spells it that way!  :) Every year while at Northwestern he would send flowers in a box.  I loved it!  It was kind of like the usual thing to expect on February 14.  Although I DID NOT EXPECT it this year!

So I finally got the story behind the flowers!

I didn't even know where I was going to be last Wednesday so he called my boss in Peachtree City to find out where I was going to be.  She gave him the address to Mrs. Tilly's house, but he didn't want to send it there.  He thought oh let me just send it to the Phi Mu house.  Well Theta Kappa doesn't have a chapter house on campus (but he didn't know that) so he searches on the website and finds the email address for the chapter officers.  He sent them emails about wanting to send me something for Valentine's Day and they all tell him to send it to Mrs. Tilly's.  He then emails Mrs. Tilly and she tells him...look we don't even know if Julie is going to be here (this is before I received my schedule) and he tells her, "I have talked to Peachtree and they told me she would be here." Funny thing is I can see and hear dad doing exactly this while he is telling me the story!

I am so proud of my sweet dad to go through so much work just to send me some flowers on this day!  I know a lot of people think Valentine's Day is cheesy, but it was really sweet to get something especially since I am not at home or even in one place anymore.

This was such a great story I had to share!  Hope you all liked it.  Dad did good.  Luv ya! :)

So I had fun with instagram...what do you think?

perception is reality...

At a recent workshop at Barton College a reoccurring theme was applied.  "Perception is reality"...I loved this.  I definitely agree.  Many times our perception of others is completely wrong, but to be quite honest it is reality.  That is all we know.  This applies in many areas to sorority women, but most commonly in a negative way. There is a new TV show on TLC called 'Sorority girls' and I have yet to actually see the show, but I  have heard that it depicts nothing but the worst view of true sorority girls.  I found this article about the show and decided to share!  Check this out! What does everyone think?

Southern Sass!

It was so nice to be back in the central time zone!  Crazy thing is I actually flew into Shreveport then drove to the school in Arkansas.  Magnolia, Arkansas has the most precious little square filled with wonderful shops!  Found mom a birthday present while I was there.  I had a blast getting to know this chapter.  We cooked spaghetti, listened to Rihanna, had way too much fast food, ate at the best local places, watched the Kardashians during the day, problem solved at night, and had so much fun!  This visit was just great!! It was bitter sweet to leave, but I was going HOME to LA babbbbbyyyy!

Enjoy the pics from the week of Recruitment!

Epsilon Omicron chapter decked out in dresses and hats!  We are all ready for the races!

Fast and the furious!

Wow!  I am really behind on blog postings....this is not good.  Things have been super crazy lately since it is recruitment season.  Recruitment season in the spring is still something I am getting use to!  Since DC I've been in Montgomery, AL/ Newport New, VA/ Wilson, NC/ York, PA/ Elon, NC/ and now I am currently in Magnolia, AR!  Traveling is so crazy...Its basically like I am on auto pilot when I am at the airport now.

Check in-Security-Find my gate-Call Dad {mom I would call you but you can't talk in class anymore :(} then get on the plane and sleep!  These past couple of flights I have been out before we even take off!  It is definitely a skill you acquire while traveling.

This month has past by so fast! Here are some pictures that have yet to make facebook/twitter!

So far away in York, PA! I love taking these pictures to see how far I am from HOME!

Phi Mu house at York College-Phi Eta Chapter

Found this amazing piano at the market in York.  I absolutely love it!

Had to take a pictures with some snow on the ground!  PA had snow everywhere! I was completely culture shocked!

Took this picture while on the plane (not sure which one) but I thought the clouds looked particularly pretty :)

Every where I go I attempt to take pictures and send them to Jack of the Kappa Sigma houses.  At Elon college Phi Mu and Kappa Sigma are neighbors just like at NSU.

my third and final suitcase of the original pink collection is broken!  This tape is holding it together.  It sounds terrible because it is broken at the bottom and scrapes the ground as I walk.  Wonderful!  I have already filed a claim and just need FedEx to pick it up in B town!!
My last couple of visits have been super busy but great!  I cannot wait to show everyone the pictures from my visit to Magnolia Arkansas home of the Epsilon Omicron chapter at Southern Arkansas University!  Go Muleriders!  :)

until next time...
