learning something new each day

Today was the second day of Phi Mu Consultant training.  And let me just say what a blessing it is to be given this opportunity. They are treating us like princesses.  I certainly cannot complain about that.  This year is going to be a crazy adventure especially since I now know my schedule for at least up to September 26th (sorry mom...I won't be visiting you until after that date). I'll be making 14 visits all over the country before then end of the month of September.  So exciting!  

While I am at leadership training I am learning that no matter what my brother or father thinks I am not as much of a preppy princess as they probably think I am.  I just started wearing nike shorts, realized what Lilly Pulitzer was, and found out the true meaning of a "frat strap" more commonly known as a "krogie" derived from the root word "kroger strap".  Interesting information....plus Lilly Pulitzer even carries krogies.  I guess that is a good thing to know.

Yes we all like to be silly and discuss the what the "cool" thing is for Greek Life, but that is not all that Phi Mu is about.  We are about sisters.  LOVE. HONOR. TRUTH. We are learning skills to become better leaders, sisters, and women.  We strive to live vibrant lives.  

Today we learned all about Extension and the adventure that will soon take place at the University of Kentucky!  Remember that Pink goes with everything! We also found out some new and exciting information for all of our Phi Mu chapters especially the officers! Phi Mu is taking huge steps towards an even brighter future filled with creative ideas and potential to change women's lives and inspire to continue this magnificent rippling effect.

I love Phi Mu with all of my heart.  The year has only begun, but I can see it already passing by too quickly.

Finally.  Today is the day.  I've been waiting for July 24, 2011 since February.  The wait has finally ceased.  Today I start a new adventure.  I'm so excited to travel Phi Mu America motivating and inspiring college women.  

Today has definitely been a test of patience.  I keep telling myself to take a deep breath and calm down. I know there is a purpose to everything in life and God is watching over me.  He has sent his angels to fly with me during every single flight.  Do you ask your angels to watch over you while you travel?

Today has been a little crazy trying to get things ready and packed, I am sitting at the airport in Alexandria, LA and who do I see?  A small gift from God saying everything is going to be okay.  My past Phi Mu advisor walks off of an airplane.  How wonderful it was to see her before I leave.  She was supportive, motivating, and uplifting during my office of President for Kappa Iota.  She was a shoulder to lean on and cry and someone to call to share a laugh or two.  What a blessing she was today.  

It is the small things in life that make me smile.  The familiar face at the airport, the green lights while driving, and the frogs I keep seeing on my car.  Speaking of my car....It was very sad to leave my duckmobile behind.  

It's about that time to put the big girl panties on and join the rest of the world in reality.  I can't wait!

The Window of Opportunity

Beta BLC (Broyhill Leadership Conference) has officially begun.  Today started with finding your express card, turning in insurance forms, making sure you knew the rules of camp, getting your sch du lee, and falling in love with your bosom buddy! Campers flew in from all over the country...even Puerto Rico. (so cool)

The opening session began with a window.  A window of opportunity for the week.  Each camper has the opportunity to make new friends, step out of their comfort zone, try new things, and most importantly learn the skills needed to become better leaders!  Each day this window of opportunity gets smaller and begins to close.  

Is there a window of opportunity in your life?  Have you found an opportunity that you have yet to seek?  Well you better jump on it (Council J)! The window is wide open for you to explore and seek what God has in store for you.  Find your opportunity and feel the cool breeze blow.  Each day that window will shut little by little.  Don't let this window of opportunity shut before you even have a chance to look outside.

This week is going to be a life changing experience for these campers and I cannot wait to be a part of it.   Our window of opportunity at camp has already started to close. What about yours?

Happy Birthday to MEEEEEE!

This weekend has been a whirlwind of visitng friends and birthday celebrations.  I am so thankful for the friends I have in my life.  Seeing their faces and getting to have heart to hearts was the highlight of the summer. I'm also glad I got to spend the evening with my Little Sister, her mom Mrs. Linda (since it was her birthday too ) and good ole Letabug.

I guess my mom was the very first friend I had in this world to celebrate this glorious day ...other than Jesus.  Tonight we packed for BETA BLC in Gaffney, SC! Videos and pictures from the week will be coming soon! :) 

I cannot wait for BETA BLC.  The window of OPPORTUNITY will soon be open.  The last camp I worked gave me so much inspiration for life.  This time will be no different.  So ready to see those smiling BETA faces.

BRIGHTER SIDE

I received an email today from a great friend who is going through a not so pleasant time, BUT somehow she is finding the brighter side of things.  

 

I absolutely LOVED the email and it made me think about a few things. 

Many times in life we get distracted by the world around us.  (happens to me everyday)  And it is not our fault, but we need help getting us back on track. What keeps you grounded?  For many of us it is the Bible and our faith in God, others quotes written on your mirror or in a quote book, and for some it is advice from whom we consider wise (John Allen most of the time).  This list of advice is something to consider when you know those distractions are coming your way! 

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places
9. Pace yourself.  Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns.  If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety.  If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.
13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut).  This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.  
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
16. Carry a spiritually enlightening book with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19. Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
21. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good 'Thank you Jesus .'
22. Laugh.
23. Laugh some more!
24. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
25. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).
26. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
27. Sit on your ego.
28. Talk less; listen more.
29. Slow down.
30. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
31. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. 

Life will throw you LEMONS but it is the LEMONADE you make with them that matters.

a NEW start!

My journey begins with a single step.  A step in the right direction.  A step in a new direction. Inspired to try something new.  With a birthday on the horizon and a passion allowed to be my called a job I'm seizing the day.  

Recently inspired at a leadership camp by a group called Council L (L yeah) to try something new.  I've never blogged before.  I only journaled one summer of my entire life.  It was an awesome summer of highs and lows, nights to remember and some to forget, but most importantly the love for reflection of my own thoughts.  I hope I'm good at this.  I pray I'm good at this.  

This new year will be filled with leaps of faith, air plane rides, bleeding pink, and trying new things. :)
